My New Zealand landscapes tend to be specific places using a combination of careful draughtsmanship and expressive mark making to capture the essence of the place. Choosing to paint plein air or recreating my landscapes from drawings: I much prefer the human perspective to that of the camera. My Canterbury Plains series focused on how cultivation and agriculture etches geometry and pattern into the landscape, creating land art, like a permanent installation.
